Ludovic Doyen - Trainee at Renewi Belgium

In October 2023, Ludovic started as a Trainee at Renewi. But his journey at Renewi began earlier. While still studying Law, he was already working as a loader for Renewi, a job that gave him a unique insight into the operational side of the business. After graduating, Ludovic went to work as an insurance broker. However, he realised that this position was not for him. He wanted a more hands-on job where he could be actively involved in day-to-day operations. When he heard about the traineeship, it was an opportunity he could not pass up. "I really wanted to do more operational work and be an active part of a company. The operational traineeship at Renewi was just that for me!"

Assignments during the traineeship

The operational traineeship at Renewi was exactly what Ludovic was looking for. Being part of the day-to-day operation and contributing directly felt like the right move for him. "I started with a project within production and that was a good start. Now I am doing an assignment at the location where I worked during my studies. I support the drivers and solve any problems during the day. It is a good mix between the office and operations."

Importance of taking the initiative

A key lesson he learnt was the importance of taking initiative. At Renewi, it is essential to ask for what you want. "If I don't ask for it, I won't get it, I have to show what I am interested in to make sure I get the most out of it." So he makes it a point to show his interest in different parts of the business, whether it is riding along with drivers, working with planners or helping to sort materials.

Coaching and support

During the traineeship, Ludovic had several coaching sessions with mentors at Renewi. "You have to talk to someone about what you want and that really helps. I am now taking English and Dutch classes to improve my skills. That will make it easier for me to work in the company in the future. Also, the session with the other Trainees ensures that you can also support each other."
That support has served Ludovic well and he also gets it from his coach Marc. "If I have a question, I can call Marc for help. If he does not respond, he calls me back within two minutes. That's nice."

Advice for future trainees

Ludovic's advice is clear: "take initiative, build relationships and don't be afraid to speak out about your goals."
