Matthijs – Manager IT Processes, Tools & Integration at Renewi 

Matthijs lives with his girlfriend in the picturesque fortified town of Heusden. Originally from Noordwijk, he studied history in Maastricht and Leiden. After an active student life, he obtained his master's degree in History in 2013. His passion for the past still lives on: "In my spare time, I like to read history books and regularly go to our favourite pub in Den Bosch with friends." 

From ERP to sustainability 

Before joining Renewi, Matthijs worked for almost eight years at an ERP supplier in Helvoirt, focusing on the construction and infrastructure sector. There, he held various roles, including account manager and operations manager. "Over time, I was ready for a new step in my career," Matthijs explains. He found that step at Renewi, where he had the opportunity to apply his knowledge and experience in a broader, international context. 
The switch was a conscious decision: "The scale and complexity of a market leader like Renewi immediately appealed to me. At the same time, the link with the construction and infrastructure sector has remained - which makes my work all the more interesting." 

Connection between IT, processes and people 

As Manager IT Processes, Tools & Integration, Matthijs leads a team responsible for developing and optimising IT processes, managing supporting tools and realising system integrations. "We make sure colleagues are guided smoothly and efficiently through our IT processes so that delivery and quality remain at a high level," he explains. 
His work is at the intersection of technology, process improvement and collaboration. In doing so, he continuously works towards simplification, standardisation and reliability. "Within strategic programmes such as Future Fit, I act as a connecting link between IT, the business and external partners." 

Future Fit: digital acceleration for the circular economy 

One of the projects Matthijs is energetically working on is the Future Fit programme - aimed at renewing and harmonising Renewi's IT landscape. "It is inspiring to contribute to this. Together, we improve processes and make digital solutions more accessible to colleagues, both inside and outside IT," he says. 
Through smart technologies and digital support, the programme contributes directly to Renewi's mission: to accelerate the circular economy. "With Future Fit, we are taking our digital clout to the next level so that Renewi remains at the forefront of sustainability and innovation." 

A culture that gives space and connects 

What Matthijs appreciates most about working at Renewi is the culture. "There is a lot of room to decide together with colleagues how best to organise our work. That freedom increases engagement and stimulates innovation." 
He describes the company culture as open, pragmatic and solution-oriented. "Everything is negotiable and colleagues know what they have in common. Within Renewi IT, people with diverse backgrounds - from operational to technical - work together on Future Fit and we build tomorrow's processes together. That makes the work instructive, varied and impactful."
