Suleiman – System DevOps Engineer at Renewi 

Suleiman is 32 and lives in Antwerp with his wife and two cats. He works as a System DevOps Engineer at Renewi, where he combines his passion for technology with his conviction to contribute to a more sustainable world. 

A bold career switch to software engineering 

Suleiman is originally from the Middle East, where he completed a university degree in English literature. After moving to the Netherlands, he decided to change course: he started a new study in Software Engineering at the Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen (HAN). A bold choice, but one that worked out well. 

His career at Renewi began as a developer of the legacy system. Soon afterwards, he made the move to the cloud, taking on the role of systems engineer. "The great thing about Renewi is that I had the opportunity to be involved in the IT transformation," says Suleiman. "As a result, I learned a lot about modern technologies, processes and working together in an international context." 

Colleagues appreciate Suleiman for his eagerness to learn and perseverance. "I am proud of how I have transformed my life and created new opportunities. Those values - growth, improvement, contributing something - I also see at Renewi." 

Sustainability in work and daily life 

For Suleiman, sustainability is more than work: he also lives consciously at home. "I really try to live up to the motto 'waste no more'. No plastic bags, recycled products as much as possible and shopping at the market to support local vendors." 
He proudly calls himself a ProudNewi. "At Renewi, we work together for a better world - and I am happy to play a part in that."
