Willeke - Communications specialist at Renewi

Willeke has been working as a communications specialist within Renewi's Corporate Communications team since 2023. Her focus is on internal communications. Colleagues describe her as creative, curious and full of enthusiasm for her profession. Her adventure at Renewi began with a LinkedIn vacancy. "Initially, it was a part-time position so I could combine it with my job at the time," Willeke explains. "But I was soon taken by the diversity of projects and the great cooperation within the team. That's when I decided to focus entirely on Renewi." 

Innovation and AI within communications

One of her most impactful projects was the integration of AI within the communications department. As project leader, Willeke took the initiative to test various tools together with a working group. She not only found a suitable toolset, but also enthusiastically brought colleagues into the world of smart technology. "It's great that at Renewi we get the space to experiment with innovation. That encourages you to keep learning." 

Creativity in work and leisure 

Besides her work, Willeke is also creative in her free time. She collects perfumes, makes fanatical lists on Spotify, Pinterest and Google Maps, and loves music in all kinds of genres. "Communication is creation," she says, "and that's in everything I do." She also enjoys walks, running and socialising with friends. 

Sustainability as a driver

Within the team, Willeke is appreciated for her drive and commitment to sustainability. She recounts: "We came up with a sustainability bingo as a team to motivate each other to make more conscious choices. That seems small, but it really makes an impact." 

Variety and growth in her work

Colleagues see her as someone who grows quickly, both professionally and personally. The variety of her work and the content of the projects ensure that no day is the same. "One day I provide training on our internal communication channels, the next day I work on videos or communication campaigns. We regularly visit operational sites, where I see first-hand how waste streams are given a new life. Super fascinating." 

Willeke feels right at home at Renewi. "It is an organisation where you can be yourself, grow and work together towards a goal that matters. That gives my work meaning every day."
