Christel – Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist at Renewi

Christel was born and raised in Eindhoven and has now been working in recruitment for over 20 years. In 2011, she started at the then Van Gansewinkel. At that time, no central recruitment department existed, which presented her with a unique opportunity: she was given the space to build the function from the ground up.
When Van Gansewinkel merged with Shanks in 2017, her responsibilities expanded further. It was eventually decided to stop organising recruitment by region or business unit and instead organise it centrally for the whole of Renewi. Christel had the opportunity to lead the team, but deliberately chose a different direction.
"I discovered that my true passion lies in connecting people. Not in managing a department, but in personally guiding the recruitment process. That's what energises me."
Over the years, Christel has developed a keen insight into people and their motivations. She believes in real contact, not only with applicants, but also with hiring managers, to make lasting matches. "If you get to know both sides well, you can put people in the right place. That leads to successful appointments, where people feel good and stay for a long time."
What strikes her most within Renewi is the strong cultural change the company has undergone. Whereas the company was once mainly known as a waste collector, its focus today is on sustainability and circular economy. For Christel, this is a development that fits perfectly with her own values.
