Chris Byrne - UK Plant and Vehicles Manager
'At first glance this may not seem to be a job many people would look at when leaving the military, but I think it is worth a second look'?
Waste Management is a lot more involved than most people think and is a lot more technical than I ever imagined it would be when I started after finishing my Army career. I was a Vehicle Mechanic in the REME and finished as an Artisan Staff Sergeant. For me my last 2 main posting helped a lot with my transition to civilian life as I completed a C Vehicle course for a tour of the Falkland Islands and ran an inspection cell at a very busy Armoured Regiment to finish with. It may sound a bit odd to say that, but my first job was as a Plant Vehicle Inspector so it was almost as if the job profile had been written with me in mind? In fact my first words to anyone at the Company were “You’ve just advertised my job”
I have met a few Ex-Military personnel who now work in Waste Management and most of them are doing well and are enjoying it. Let’s face it working in situations when you can potentially be covered in mud and other odd things is nothing new to most?
There are opportunities to advance no matter what level you start at but no matter what job you do you will always be part of a much larger team.'
