Lee-Anne – SHEQ Advisor Wakefield

Lee-Anne is a SHEQ Advisor at the Wakefield project. She started in 2021 at Renewi. After working for a chemical manufacturer, she was looking for a new challenge. She didn’t know Renewi but quickly learned more after doing some research. ‘I thought it would be nice to work for a company that gives back to the environment, that is sustainable and that is moving with the times.’

As a SHEQ advisor, Lee-Anne is involved with a lot of different projects. Everything to make sure that everybody can work safely in a safe environment. This means she looks at a lot of different aspects of the business. ‘It is the only role, where you are involved in all areas; you're not just a SHEQ advisor, you're an engineer, you're an operative, you're an office worker, you're an admin, you’re first aid, you’re a fire marshal. You are constantly on the go, but I find that so interesting. No two days are the same, every day I think about what is going to come next. It is very challenging, but it is weirdly rewarding.’

Lee Anne is very proud of the different projects she has been involved in and feels a sense of accomplishment and pride. ‘It’s rewarding in the sense that I am given autonomy in my role to make changes and roll them out across sites.’

Lee-Anne is part of the leadership team at the Wakefield project but is mostly found on the sites. ‘I get to meet everyone and that is nice, I feel you don’t have that as much in other roles’. From the moment she started she felt very welcomed by the team. ‘Sometimes being from the office coming into operations can cause friction, but I was welcomed by everybody. They've made me feel like I'm part of the team.’
