Matthijs - Resource & Competency Manager

Since 2021 I live in the fortified town of Heusden, together with my girlfriend and our dog. Originally from Noordwijk, I studied in Maastricht and Leiden. After an active student life, I received my Master's degree in History in 2013.

In my spare time I still enjoy reading history books, in addition I enjoy going to our regular pub in Den Bosch with my friends.

Before joining Renewi, I enjoyed working for almost eight years at an ERP supplier in Helvoirt for the construction & infrastructure industry. After filling various positions, such as account manager and operations manager, I was ready for the next step.

During my search I was approached by Renewi and was immediately enthusiastic. First of all, the scale appealed to me, because I did not yet have experience at a market leader and internationally operating organization like Renewi.

It was also an opportunity for me to make further use of the experience and knowledge I had gained. The construction, infrastructure and waste sectors are connected in various ways, which also makes my work interesting in terms of content. In addition, Renewi is known as an innovative and progressive company with a clear social impact, which is extra motivating.

Working as a Resource & Competency Manager

In my role as Resource & Competency Manager at Renewi, I support both my direct colleagues and senior management. I take care of the capacity and composition of the various teams and keep an eye on the personal development and job satisfaction of my colleagues.

The Future Fit project, aimed at renewing and harmonizing the IT landscape, is particularly inspiring. It is great to be part of this dynamic and to improve processes and make them more user-friendly for our colleagues inside and outside the company.

My work contributes directly to the circular economy. By providing digital tools and support, we help Renewi work more efficiently and sustainably. With Future Fit, we are trying to take this to the next level so that Renewi remains at the forefront of the transition to a circular economy.

What I value most in my job is the freedom to work with colleagues to determine how best to do our work. This gives more meaning to work and keeps us open to different approaches. In the rapidly changing IT world, this is essential.
